Everyone loves a fair! Minimize

It has something for the entire family. A stroll down agriculture lane gives the old a chance to remember their past and the young an opportunity to learn where their food comes from and the economic value agriculture has in their respective communities and province. Signage and displays help in this educational process. Not only are fairs educational, but entertaining and fun. After sampling a variety of food on the grounds, viewing entertainment venues are a must. Visitors can then stroll through the static and leisure arts exhibits, take in a ride or two, or visit the 4-H and youth areas which help complete a perfect day. All this and much more is available to visitors at one of our agricultural fairs and exhibitions.

Fairs and exhibitions have a significant impact on the economy of Alabama. They are gathering places for the public, both young and old and offer the public a place to meet, compete and volunteer their services. Not only do fairs and exhibitions have an economic benefit, they also offer many tangible benefits to each and every community.

A Winning Combination Minimize

The Department of Agriculture and Industries has worked as partners with the fairs in Alabama to promote and celebrate the importance of agriculture in our region.  The county fairs are one of the greatest tourist attractions in our state with a combined attendance of over 1.1 million.

Through an enabling act passed by the 1969 Legislature, the Alabama Department of Agriculture Center Board is co-sponsor of the fairs of Alabama and pays a portion of the premiums, prizes and awards given by Alabama Fairs.  In 2006, approximately 40,000 agricultural exhibits that included livestock, FFA, FHA, Field and Garden, horticulture, and more were exhibited throughout our county fairs and over $250,000 was paid in premiums to those who exhibited.

On behalf of the Department of Agriculture & Industries and the Association of Alabama Fairs. we would like to take this opportunity to invite you and your family to attend one of the 24 agricultural fairs in our state.  We encourage you to explore some of the agricultural traditions of the past while learning the importance of agriculture today and in our future.
